FIHRM-LA IS AN INTERNATIONAL PROJECT AIMED AT PROMOTING KNOWLEDGE OF AND RESPECT FOR HUMAN RIGHTS IN LATIN AMERICA, BY MEANS OF ACTIONS IN LOCAL MUSEUMS.
FIHRM-LA started as a result of the 8th Annual Meeting of FIHRM, which took place from the 28th to the 30th of November 2017 at the International Museum for Democracy, in Rosario, Argentina.
In Latin America, diverse organizations and museums carry out outstanding work in the field of Human Rights, keeping alive the memory of the violations to these rights under the dictatorships borne by the region in recent decades.
It is fundamental work because those who know their own history and the struggles to conquer rights are conscious of the worth of these achievements. Thus, they can react against other injustices that are still suffered by many members of their communities. In view of these complex, hard to address issues, museums in the region can and must active their role as organizations in service of the public.
FIHRM-LA enables the establishment of a forum for debate, agreement and collaboration between Latin American museums, so that, together, their potential as educators is developed, seeking to contribute to their public’s awareness, interest in, understanding and respect for those rights declared inalienable for all human beings
